G10257.11 Trapezoidal Insignia for the Black Waffen-SS M-43

G10257.11 Trapezoidal Insignia for the Black Waffen-SS M-43

This insignia  was produced from about 1944 on for the Waffen-SS black M-43 used by armored troops.  The one piece design was an economy measure.  Some were produced with one row of teeth while others were produced with one row of teeth. They were folded into a trapezoidal shape when sewn to the M-43.  Identical insignia were produced for the field gray M-43’s used by non-armored troops.

This example is machine woven and marked "BeVo-Wuppertal" along the edge. Only the pattern with a single row of teeth was so marked. This example was glued into a photograph album by the GI, but retains only a negligible amount of residue. Unfortunately there is a split adjacent to the left side of the trapezoidal design.
