UN25K WWII U.S. Navy WAVES Overseas Cap Insignia

UN25K WWII U.S. Navy WAVES Overseas Cap Insignia

This insignia was worn by enlisted personnel on the U.S. Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) overseas cap towards the end of WWII. It consists of a Sterling silver 3 bladed propeller surmounted by a gold fouled anchor. The insignia is about 1 1/8” in diameter and is pin back with a safety catch. The anchor is attached to the propeller with a rivet. The reverse side of the propeller is marked “Sterling”.

There is no damage to this item, but does have tarnish to the ends of the propeller blades, and the gilding is worn in the high spots.
I believe this was a flea market find.
