UQ3465 Third Army, Green Back, WWII

The third U. S. Army was commanded by General George S. Patton during WWII, and was responsible for a large portion of the more spectacular U. S. advances in Europe.

Green back patches were produced during WWII using olive green thread as the bobbin thread, so the stitching that normally appears as white “snow” on the back of the patch is olive green instead.  They are far less common than the ones with white bobbin thread.

This example is in near mint condition, but close inspection reveals that it has been sewn on a uniform at one time. It is a cut edge patch, of course.
